Day 3 ~ Appreciating Our Precious Human Life
Jul 27, 2026
Appreciating Our Precious Human Life
The day begins with a morning meditation on the first Lamrim meditation that we learned about yesterday, the preciousness of our human life. Using the Festival teachings and Venerable Geshe-la's words Gen Rinchung helps us to contemplate the purpose of the meditation which is to encourage us to take the real meaning of our human lives through practicing Dharma purely and sincerely.
In our spiritual holiday we can learn how to make ourself happy all the time, by learning to maintain a peaceful mind all the time through remembering and practicing Dharma. A running theme of the Festival is how can we really do that, not just knowing the teachings but really practicing them so that our lives become the path to the peace of liberation and the happiness of enlightenment.

Potential to Attain Enlightenment
This potential to attain enlightenment is the uncommon characteristic of our human life and Venerable Geshe-la encourages us to really rejoice in and appreciate our good fortune. This is much easier to do at Festival when we are immersed in listening to Dharma, meditating on Dharma, putting Dharma into practice and are surrounded by Sangha friends trying to do the same. Each day is full and rich - it really feels like we don't waste a minute!

Recognizing Self-Cherishing
The particular focus of the second day of the Festival in the teachings with Gen-la Sangden is how to recognize our self-cherishing mind and to see how much suffering, pain and deception it causes us, and to replace this with the sublime mind of cherishing others. Something we can clearly see being put into practice across the Festival site.
Podcast
In this podcast, taken from the Summer Festival 2026, Gen-la Sangden gives a teaching on how self cherishing is a great deception.
