Celebrating Heruka Day with the sound of damarus and bells
Feb 1, 2025
January 25 is a special day in the Kadampa calendar - it is Heruka Day. Heruka is Buddha's mind of compassion manifested as form. On this day, Kadampa centers worldwide celebrate by organizing community events and prayers. Here are some activities organized at the mother center, Mexico and Montpellier.
On Heruka Day, it was wonderful to be joined by our Resident Teacher, Gen-la Dekyong, who had just returned from an extensive trip teaching the National Festivals in Australasia. The day was truly blessed, with Vajrayogini self-Initiation and Offering to the Spiritual Guide prayers held in the Kadampa Temple for World Peace.
KMC Mexico had a double celebration on Heruka Day! This month many people had completed their Vajrayogini close counting retreat and traveled to KMC Cuernavaca to conclude with a fire puja.
More than 60 people participated in this extraordinary practice at the beautiful center in Cuernavaca.
Back in Mexico City at KMC Mexico, the students made offerings to Guru Heruka in the practice of Offering to the Spiritual Guide. Such an auspicious day!
'We pray that through the power of our practice we may be able to reach the complete state of enlightenment and thus be able to benefit every sentient being.'
This Saturday, January 25th, we finished our Tantric retreat led by Kadam Olivier, Resident Teacher of Kadampa Meditation Center Vajrasattva, Montpellier, with a special offering to our Spiritual Guide, Guru Heruka. Many of our members joined this special day.
It was a great celebration for everyone!
