In the early days of January, many centers organize winter retreats where stillness, silence, and blessings take center stage. Set amidst snowy mountains, these retreats offer a serene experience at Kailash IRC in Switzerland and in the Ennstal region of Upper Austria.

Silent retreat in the Austrian Mountains

From December 30 to January 6, Kadampa Meditation Center Austria hosted a silent retreat in the picturesque Ennstal region of Upper Austria. Participants from Austria, Germany, and Spain had the wonderful opportunity to pause and reflect in the serene mountain setting of Weyer, meditating on Lamrim – the stages of the path to enlightenment – guided by Gen Kelsang Palden, the Resident Teacher of KMC Austria in Vienna.

The retreat began with a reflective New Year’s Eve celebration around a campfire and a refreshing New Year’s Day walk through the nearby forests. Starting January 1, participants embraced the silence to deeply contemplate the 15 Lamrim meditations from the book The Mirror of Dharma Additions by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.
