A refuge for everyone
Jan 22, 2025
January is a time when practitioners immerse themselves in various retreats to deepen their Dharma practice. Across different Kadampa centers worldwide, these retreats cater to both advanced practitioners and those who are just beginning their journey. Here are the activities organized by centers in New York, Mexico and France.
People from all over the US and world are at KMC New York to engage in winter retreats, many of them staying for the full six weeks.
Winter retreats at KMC New York with Gen Samten Kelsang are based on the book The Oral Instructions of Mahamudra by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. We are very fortunate to be able to meditate on these instructions which have guided (and are guiding) countless fortunate practitioners to the state of enlightenment within one life.
In the Main Building meditation room, a small group of dedicated practitioners are engaging in a Heruka counting retreat, growing their minds of compassion, and deepening their connection with Buddha Heruka, who is the manifestation of the compassion of all Buddhas. This retreat will conclude with a Heruka fire puja in March.
Lastly, during winter retreats, two of our weekly General Program classes continue offsite in local towns, helping people connect with practical teachings and meditations and learn how to use Buddha's advice as a solution to daily problems.
Like all Kadampa centers, KMC Mexico offers classes, courses, and retreats that are accessible to everyone, both those who are just starting and those with experience in modern Buddhism and meditation.
We are fortunate to have two meditation rooms. This allows for simultaneous activities, to allow more people to benefit from Buddha's special teachings.
In our main room, on Saturday, January 4, we had a wonderful retreat called New Year's Resolution: Cultivate Peace of Mind, in which we learned the true causes of having peace of mind (not only in 2025 but in our entire lives).
Meanwhile, in our second meditation room, Highest Yoga Tantra practitioners have been doing a Vajrayogini counting retreat since December 26 for the benefit of all beings.
A close retreat of Venerable Vajrayogini and a two-week Mahamudra retreat with Gen Eupame are welcomed by practitioners as a chance to gain experience of their Tantric practice.
During a 5-day beginner's retreat on the habits of happy people, Gen Denyi explained the teachings of Advice from Atisha’s Heart. All the retreats began on the afternoon of the 10th of January, Vajrayogini Day, with Offering to the Spiritual Guide.
