Celebrating Turning the Wheel of Dharma Day and the Birthday of our Spiritual Guide
Jun 4, 2026
Just in time for the 2021 US Festival in a few days time, the host center, KMC New York, just installed the collection of Buddha's teachings, known as the 'Kangyur', in the Temple.
With special covers and labels prepared by Tharpa Publications, they are in two cabinets, one either side of the Temple shrine.
Within the cabinet is a statue of Thousand Armed Avalokiteshvara, symbolising the compassion of Buddha reaching all living beings.
Nothing more precious
It is impossible to overstate the significance of this development. The 108 volumes of this collection include all the teachings Buddha gave.
For Buddhists there is nothing more precious than the speech of Buddha, the source of all Dharma in this world. Just beholding these precious scriptures bestows powerful blessings, creating the cause to meet Buddhadharma and attain liberation in the future.
The 2021 US Festival, June 18-23, with Gen-la Kelsang Dekyong, General Spiritual Director of NKT-IKBU, is entitled Solving Problems through the Wisdom of Emptiness. During the Festival Gen-la will grant the empowerment of Prajnaparamita
and give teachings on emptiness.
June 4 is the Turning the Wheel of Dharma Day on which we celebrate Buddha’s first teaching in this world - the first Turning of the Wheel of Dharma. It is also the birthday of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, the Founder of NKT.
