Kadam Dharma in Spain & Portugal

For well over 40 years Kadam Dharma has been flourishing in Spain & Portugal through the kindness of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche.

There are now many centers - KMCs, KBCs, international retreat centres and two Kadampa Temples for World Peace in the region.
KMC Spain - Temple

Kadampa Meditation Center Spain was born from the compassionate heart of the Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, who inaugurated it on May 5, 2006.

Located at the foot of the Sierra de Mijas, Alhaurín el Grande (Málaga), the complex occupies an area of ​​3 hectares, with gardens, fruit trees, several residential buildings with 50 rooms, a cafeteria, a shop and even a swimming pool.

Following the vision and wishes of Venerable Geshe-la, in 2020 work began on the construction of the Sixth Kadampa Temple for World Peace, which was inaugurated on June 10, 2022, with the presence of the General Spiritual Director of the NKT, Gen-la Kelsang Dekyong. The ceremony was attended by 2,400 students from all over the world and many others joining online.

Since then, the Temple and the entire KMC Spain compound has been open and offers meditation classes and courses, retreats for new and more advanced practitioners, free guided tours, and is visited by people from all over the world.

The Temple is admired not only by Buddhist practitioners but also by everyone who visits. It has received prestigious awards including "Macael International Award of Europe 2022", granted by their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain.

Since 2018, Gen Kelsang Chokga, the National Spiritual Director of Spain and Portugal, has been the Resident Teacher at the center.

KMC Málaga

Kadampa Meditation Center Málaga began its activities in 2007 as a branch of KMC Spain, with weekly meditation classes in the city.

In 2018 the center acquired a commercial premises in the heart of the city, in the very busy calle Cuarteles nº 7, a few meters from the main train, metro and bus station of Málaga. After several months of renovations, it was inaugurated by Gen-la Kelsang Kunsang on August 29, 2018.

This urban Temple is an oasis of peace in the city, where daily meditation classes and several courses are offered every month. Its spectacular shrine, which contains statues created by Kadampa Art Studio, can be seen from the street.

Currently Gen Kelsang Chokga, the National Spiritual Director of Spain and Portugal, is the Resident Teacher at KMC Málaga.

KMC Barcelona

More than 40 years ago the teachings of Kadampa Buddhism arrived in Barcelona. In July 1979 Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche visited Barcelona and gave a course of several days on training the mind to develop universal compassion. Later, in 1992, the center was established and has functioned continously as a place of refuge and inner peace for all beings.

During these years Kadam Dharma has flourished extensively, benefiting many people who regularly attend the two venues that we currently have, an Urban Center in the heart of the city and a beautiful Temple in Sant Salvador de Guardiola, near the well-known Montserrat mountains, which houses a community of more than 30 people. These two places provide spiritually minded people a space to meditate daily and cultivate and maintain a peaceful mind in the midst of their busy routine.

Currently, the center offers daily classes, chanted prayers, retreats, half-day workshops, Foundation Program, and a Teacher Training Program, meditation for children, classes in English and weekly classes in 12 cities of the province.

KMC Madrid

KMC Madrid offers two meditation centers: in the city (Malasaña neighborhood) established in 2013 and in La Sierra de Guadarrama, Mataelpino, 45 minutes from Madrid, established in 2022.

La Sierra KMC has 4,500 sqm of buildings in 11,000 sqm of forest.

There is a community of residents and volunteers of different nationalities, two meditation rooms, a World Peace Cafe, a shop and cabins for rent. The terraces and the dining room have incredible views of the valley and the mountains.

KMC Sevilla

KMC Sevilla is located in the well-known Triana neighborhood, on the banks of the Guadalquivir, offering a calm and peaceful environment in the middle of the city conducive to personal and spiritual development.

It is one of the oldest Kadampa Buddhist centers in the country. Founded in 1993 by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche who gave it the name 'Mahamudra Centre', symbolising the union of great bliss and emptiness.

Almost 30 years later, in September 2021, the centre opened a beautiful urban temple dedicated to working for world peace.

KMC Valencia

Kadampa Dharma in the Valencia area began in the early 90s.


In 2021, a local property was acquired and Kadampa Meditation Center Valencia  was established. The new space offeres approximately 200 sqm, with about 90 sqm for the meditation room.

Kadam Dharma first arrived on the island of Mallorca in 1996. Today it flourishes as KMC Mallorca.

KMC Granada

Kadam Dharma has been in the Granada area since the late 1990s.

At present it ocupies a small commercial property in the city.

In 2022 Venerable Geshela announced that he had been living in Granada for more than twenty years where he did retreat and where he wrote his latest books.

It is a very blessed place.

KMC Bilbao

Kadampa Meditation Center Bilbao is located on Artekale street in Bilbao, one of the famous seven streets of Casco Viejo, in the heart of the city.

It became an independent centre in 2014 and in 2021 purchesed it's present premises. In September 2022 became a KMC.

KMC Girona is in an old neighborhood of the city, close to many small shops and is very close to the cathedral.

The Dharma came to this province in 1993 and in 2022 became a KMC. It is a flourishing centre with many Foundation Programe students.

Menorca International Retreat Center was founded in 1981 and was visited on a number of ocassions by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche.

KBC Je Tsongkhapa is located in the center of Zaragoza, in the old area of the city and just 5 minutes from Plaza del Pilar, the most recognized point in the city.

Aryadeva KBC, Tenerife

Kadam Dharma arrived in Tenerife in November 1992, under the guidance of the Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche. Aryadeva Kadampa Buddhist Center was founded later. Now the centre is located in La Laguna.

PORTUGAL

KMC Deuachen - Temple

In 2010, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche announced that a Kadampa temple would be built in Portugal.

He personally travelled to Portugal to choose the location of the Temple.


Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche inaugurated Kadampa Meditation Centre Deuachen - Temple for World Peace in 2013 just before the International Fall Festival in Cascais with more than 7000 people attending.

Since then, thousands of Portuguese and people from many countries have visited and been enchanted by the beauty and peace conveyed by this precious holy temple.

It is truly a very blessed place!
