If our mind is peaceful, we’re happy regardless of our external situation… In any situation, it’s how our mind is relating to what’s appearing to it that determines whether we’re miserable or happy.
If something can be remedied, why be unhappy about it? And if there is no remedy for it, there is still no point in being unhappy.
It’s a little bit like when a tsunami hits that beach, and your bamboo hut is crushed. What we want to do is continually create the internal conditions that enable us to deal with those without feeling overwhelmed.
