Kadampa Meditation Center Montreal is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2025! Founded in 1995 by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, KMC Montreal is a vibrant harmonious center that every year enables hundreds of people from the region and beyond to enjoy a life of great meaning through the practice of Kadampa Buddhism.
To celebrate the kindness of its Founder, the Center has organized three special events in addition to its usual program.
We started the year with a close retreat counting Venerable Geshe-la's name mantra, drawing closer and closer to the view and intention of our Founder and striving to repay his kindness. A few people completed the close retreat and many others enjoyed sessions during the whole month, abiding in the blessings of our root Guru.
On February 15 and 16, we had the wonderful opportunity to receive Buddha Avalokiteshvara empowerment and the blessing transmission of the instructions of Avalokiteshvara Sadhana.
Our Resident Teacher, Gen Kelsang Chögyan, received these instructions last December at Manjushri KMC from Gen-la Kelsang Dekyong and shared this banquet of instructions with our community on this weekend.
It felt like a very special occasion for our community, some receiving their first empowerment, the Sangha meeting our new Administrative Director, Thourya, and KMC Montreal welcoming people from all the centers in the province of Quebec. We all felt deeply joyful and grateful, empowered to let the teachings touch our hearts through the force of our training in contemplation and through receiving our Guru’s blessings.
Next month, from March 21 to 23, we have invited Gen Samten Kelsang to give a public talk and a weekend course on the sublime practice of taking and giving. This will conclude our events to celebrate this anniversary.
With all our hearts, we rejoice in our good fortune to have met Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche and pray to repay his kindness by making Kadam Dharma flourish in Montreal and surrounding areas.
It is with great joy that we welcomed Gen Chodor, Resident Teacher of KMC Canada, to Quebec City at the beginning of February. He gave a beautiful talk about love on Friday evening which was deeply appreciated by those who came. Many people were hearing Kadampa teachings for the very first time and asked a lot of questions about the tradition, the center and the teachings.
The following day, Gen Chodor gave a full-day workshop on emptiness. He taught this profound topic in such an accessible and easy-to-understand way using many effective analogies to help us deepen our understanding of the true nature of reality.
We thank Gen Chodor for his great kindness, accessibility and peaceful manner which inspired many. Thank you also to those who contributed to organizing and participating in these events. Of course, all this would have been impossible without the great kindness of our Spiritual Guide, Venerable Geshe-la. THANK YOU GESHE-LA!
