Canadian Dharma Celebrations 2024 ~ Part 3
Dec 8, 2024
This year, the Mother Centre of NKT-IKBU, Manjushri KMC, has been undergoing significant renovation work. See the first part of this post for the works done in the shrine, cafe area and the grounds. See this article for the reception area modernisation, offices changes, major building renovation both inside and outside.
The reception area has been completely transformed into an easily accessible space for guests and customers to receive help and information. The new reception is adorned with the gilded NKT-IKBU logo, envisioned by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche himself. Additionally, a new backlit image of Venerable Geshe-la is displayed in the reception area; an inspiring presence for visitors and residents when they enter the main building.
The NKT office has undergone improvements, resulting in a more spacious, clean, and modern finish, while retaining the main features of the Grade 2 listed building. In fact the beautiful features have become even more prominent within the context of the modern office space.
Also two departments that are part of our worldwide tradition - Tharpa Publications and Kadampa Internet have undergone a significant change. Previously located in separate spaces, this year they have come together in a collaborative setting in a new spacious office above the chapel.
Numerous projects have been completed to help preserve the building. One of the major renovation projects began several months ago. A scaffolding has been erected around the north wing of the main building for an extended period to restore the sandstone in the most decayed areas. The restoration of the two towers is progressing smoothly, and soon we will have the pleasure of once again appreciating the beauty of this Gothic architectural feature.
Then work will move to another section!
