New Year Retreats come to a Close
As the Heruka and Vajrayogini retreats at centers around the world draw to a close, various special concluding activities are taking place, including post-retreat burning offerings.
To complete a close retreat of action we need to do a burning offering to purify any mistakes we may have made during our retreat. We can purify all such mistakes by performing the burning offering.
Yesterday, Gen-la Kelsang Dekyong, Spiritual Director of NKT-IKBU, presided over a Vajrayogini burning offering at Manjushri KMC.
Forty people took part in this auspicious event.
"The real burning offerings that delight the Gurus and Buddhas are the mental practices that consume the fuel of ordinary appearance and ordinary conception. In generation stage meditation we develop the ‘fire’ of concentration on clear appearance and divine pride, which partially consumes the fuel of ordinary appearance and ordinary conception. Then during completion stage meditation we develop the ‘fire’of the wisdom of the union of great bliss and emptiness, which totally consumes the fuel of ordinary appearance and ordinary conception."
