The city of York has a special place in the history of modern Kadampa Buddhism, for it was here that Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche established his first center.
Since its inception in 1978, Madhyamaka Center has evolved into a major KMC within the international union of modern Kadampa Centers, occupying various locations in York before moving to Kilnwick Percy Hall in Pocklington, just 15 miles outside of the city.
Venerable Geshe-la has visited and taught at all the locations, and even though the center is now located outside York, he has never forgotten the city itself and has always ensured Kadam Dharma is readily available to the people who live and work there.
This weekend Venerable Geshe-la’s dedication to this ancient city rose to another level with the opening of the brand new Kadampa Meditation Centre York.
