A Time of Renewal: Kadampa Teachers Gather at the Mother Center
Jul 14, 2026
Part of the commitment of being a Kadampa Resident Teacher is to make effort to attend the International Teacher Training Program each year either in person or online. This program was established by the Founder of New Kadampa Tradition, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, to ensure the continued unity, purity and qualification of Kadampa Teachers around the world.
Right now at Manjushri KMC there are almost 150 Teachers from around the world gathered together at their spiritual home. They are studying Part 2 of How to Understand the Mind by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. The Teacher for the course is Gen-la Khyenrab and sessions take place twice a day in the Kadampa Temple for World Peace, six days a week. They are joined by many more around the world participating online.
For those attending in person it is a rich, immersive period of training and an opportunity to spend very valuable time with other Teachers, discussing the topics and sharing ideas and experience with each other.
The Teachers have by now settled into a daily rhythm of teachings, meditations, discussion and personal study and practice. They also help with work around Manjushri Centre and enjoy walking in the gardens, woods and along the shore as they memorize the text. At lunchtime there is lively conversation and everywhere you look someone is studying.
Although the Teachers are physically away from their centers, their communities are always in their hearts, and this is an important time of renewal in order for them to return with reinvigorated motivation, inspiration and dedication.
In particular through studying How to Understand the Mind, they are deepening their knowledge and improving their qualification to be able to teach this unique and very important text to others. They also gain a more precise and practical understanding of their own minds and this will enable them to help others to do the same.
At the very heart of the teachings this year has been understanding what makes a mind valid, and how to gain actual realizations that go beyond belief and are instead based on conclusive reasons or direct perception. This gives great confidence in how to make authentic spiritual progress both in meditation and in daily life.
We deeply rejoice in the dedication of our kind Kadampa Resident Teachers and pray that we will continue to have many dedicated Teachers for future generations.
The Resident Teachers of the New Kadampa Tradition have gather together at their spiritual home, Manjushri Kadampa Meditation Centre, to participate in an annual International Teacher Training Program (ITTP).
