Creating a
Pure World:

Longer retreats in January

To make progress on our spiritual path, we can engage in short and sometimes longer retreats. These extended retreats give us the opportunity to truly feel we are in a Pure Land and to understand that creating a pure world is possible. Here are some retreats offered this month by Kadampa centers.

A Blessed Close Retreat at KMC Mexico

We concluded close retreat on the Guru's name Mantra with the Vajradaka Burning Offering, a profoundly powerful practice for purifying negative karma and renewing our minds.

During the retreat, participants also had the extraordinary opportunity to celebrate Heruka Day and Vajrayogini Day in the main Meditation Hall of KMC Mexico, guided by our Resident Teacher and National Spiritual Director, Gen Sangden. In these special moments we felt even more powerful blessings and inspiration, strengthening the heartfelt connection with Dharma and our spiritual practice.

Our heartfelt gratitude goes to all the volunteers, participants, and helpers whose dedication made this retreat possible, filling it with merit, care, and joy.

Most of all, we offer infinite thanks to our Spiritual Guide, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, for showing us the complete, perfect, and deeply meaningful path of Kadam Dharma. Through these teachings, we are reminded that true spiritual transformation is possible, and that by following this path with devotion, we can cultivate peace, clarity, and joy in our minds and in the world.

KMC Barcelona hosted three LONG retreats

During January, Kadampa Meditation Center Barcelona hosted three inspiring retreats, Heruka close retreat, Vajrayogini close retreat, and retreat on The Oral instructions of Mahamudra.

Vajrayogini AND HERUKA Close Retreat

A Vajrayogini Close Retreat was completed at the end of the month with a traditional Vajrayogini fire puja, providing a powerful conclusion of purification and renewal for all participants. A Heruka Close Retreat is currently ongoing and will continue until March, allowing practitioners to deepen their familiarity with this profound Highest Yoga Tantra practice over an extended period of retreat.

four-week retreat

In addition, a four-week retreat on The Oral Instructions of Mahamudra gave participants the chance to engage deeply with these precious and transformative instructions, under the kind guidance of Gen Kelsang Tonglam and Gen Kelsang Lochani.

We rejoice in these meaningful opportunities to immerse ourselves in retreat and practice sincerely. From our hearts, we thank our precious Spiritual Guide, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, for his extraordinary kindness in making these profound and liberating methods available to us through the New Kadampa Tradition.

May we treasure these teachings and put them into practice for the benefit of all beings.

The Dorje Shugden Close Retreat at KMC Canada

Retreat in Toronto could rightly be called the Snow Retreat. Sub-zero temperatures did not diminish the enthusiasm of retreatants, who devoted themselves to four daily retreat sessions throughout the month, both at the centre and at home.

The retreat concluded this weekend with 15 practitioners gathering in the garage of the Dharma residence for the final purification. The city had experienced record snowfall and icy conditions, yet the Sangha came together at 7:30 a.m., carefully navigating high snowbanks and slippery paths. With the temperature at −11°C (12°F), they had only a single light and limited electricity, but still engaged in four two-hour sessions of burning offering.

Their inspiring presider, the Resident Teacher at KMC Canada, Gen Kelsang Chodor, offered countless sesame seeds to Vajradaka, purifying everyone’s mistakes accumulated during the retreat.

Life-saving foot and hand warmers, along with proper ventilation, made the sessions possible, and everyone persevered until the end, returning home with frozen fingers and toes—cold but joyful.

This retreat was a beautiful manifestation of faith, joyful effort, and perseverance, demonstrating the extraordinary blessings and power of dedicated retreat practice.
