Celebrating Turning the Wheel of Dharma Day and the Birthday of our Spiritual Guide
Jun 4, 2026
Earlier this month, over two hundred practitioners gathered at KMC NYC to receive the empowerment of White Tara and commentary to her practice. Kadam Morten offered a weekend of illuminating teachings and meditations, helping everyone deepen their faith and experience of this special Buddha. The event brought together a large and joyful assembly, creating a memorable and meaningful weekend for the New York Sangha.
At KMC Washington DC, Resident Teacher Kadam Michelle granted White Tara empowerment and teachings on November 15–16, a profound blessing of long life, wisdom, and merit. The weekend offered practitioners a chance to develop a close connection with White Tara, whose nature is the wind element of all Buddhas. In a fitting coincidence, the empowerment took place during a regional wind advisory, a reminder of her swift and transformative energy. More than thirty people attended, including several receiving an empowerment for the first time. The weekend featured teachings on The Yoga of White Tara, guided meditations, and time for contemplation, as well as shared vegetarian meals that strengthened friendships among the Washington DC Sangha.
At KMC Maryland in Baltimore, nearly forty practitioners gathered on November 22 to receive the blessing empowerment of Buddha Vajrapani with Resident Teacher, Gen Kelsang Chogden. The following day the community engaged in two retreat sessions, focusing on bringing power to their spiritual practice and learning to remove obstacles through The Yoga of Buddha Vajrapani. It was a weekend of much needed inspiration for the Mid Atlantic region.
This weekend, a fortunate group of practitioners came together at KMC Valencia to receive the blessing empowerment of Buddha Vajrasattva. Kadampas from Valencia and the surrounding areas were joined by many attending an empowerment for the first time. Everyone received clear teachings on the precious opportunity to purify negative karma and how to engage in this practice effectively. Deep gratitude was expressed to Venerable Geshe-la and to all the Sangha members who worked joyfully to make the event meaningful.
June 4 is the Turning the Wheel of Dharma Day on which we celebrate Buddha’s first teaching in this world - the first Turning of the Wheel of Dharma. It is also the birthday of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, the Founder of NKT.
