Deepen the Summer Festival experience with a Post-festival retreat

Gen-la Kunsang's teaching centered around the dangers of attachment, the source of all suffering, and how important it is to make a strong determination to recognize, reduce and finally abandon it. If we do this we will be following in Buddha's footsteps and be of great benefit to those around us. She reminds everyone of precious words of encouragement and advice shared by Venerable Geshe-la at previous ordinations: the real aim of taking ordination is to accomplish 'our oldest wish' to always be happy. How very fortunate! If we always remember this, there'll be almost no space in our heart to be unhappy.
Finally there is the ceremony itself. The new ordainees, having cut their hair and put on their robes, receive new names and are ready to begin following a new way of life that leads firmly out of samsara. There is a stillness, peace and joy in the Temple as the vows are recited.
After the ceremony the new monks and nuns are welcomed with warm hugs and much rejoicing by the ordained Sangha who come forward to find out their new names and the precious meanings associated with them.
We dedicated:
"May the Dharma Centres of all knowing Losang Dragpa be filled with hosts of Sanghas and Yogis,
Striving to practice single-pointedly the three pure trainings
And thus may there be the auspiciousness of Buddha's Doctrine remaining for a very long time."
