Wintertime in the Southern Hemisphere - Recent Events
While people in the Northern Hemisphere enjoy summer in August, those in the Southern Hemisphere are now enjoying various winter events. Check out the recent wintertime events in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and Uruguay.
Avalokiteshvara Empowerment at KMC Adelaide, Australia
On Sunday, August 18, KMC Adelaide, organized a blessing empowerment of Avalokiteshvara, the enlightened being who embodies the compassion of all Buddhas.
This empowerment was a guided meditation that connected us to Avalokiteshvara’s enlightened mind. Through receiving his inspiring blessings, we can swiftly actualize our own potential for the extraordinary mind of great compassion. It was a wonderful event, and many participants deeply appreciated this blessed ceremony.
Meditation & Curry at KMC Perth, Australia
We had a delightful and cozy event at KMC Perth with around 50 people joining us for our first Curry and Calm evening on Monday. Everyone enjoyed sampling a variety of curries made by our kind volunteers. It was a wonderful evening where people had the opportunity to get to know each other better and welcome new faces to our Monday evening drop-in class.

Banquet of Delight at KMC Durban
KMC Durban hosted a true banquet of delight. While the food was delicious, what made the event truly special were the meditations and the inspiration to live compassionately. Our Resident Teacher, Gen Jampel, guided us into our hearts, leading us to a place where the happiness of others and their freedom from suffering became our priority. This is how we want to live!
Retreat at Vajrapani KBC, South Africa
Upon returning from the Summer Festival, our Resident Teacher, Gen Mila, led an inspiring retreat called Heart of Wisdom at Vajrapani KBC in Johannesburg. Participants greatly appreciated the opportunity to learn more about The Great Mother sadhana and receive insightful commentary on the Heart Sutra.
Emptiness Retreat at KBC Uruguay
Recently, volunteers from KBC Uruguay organized our second retreat in the heart of Montevideo, where we enjoyed teachings on emptiness. The retreat was guided by our Resident Teacher, Kelsang Sheyang, who kindly led us through precious meditations on emptiness. She also shared teachings she received during the Summer Festival at our mother center in the UK. Everyone was deeply inspired by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche’s presentation of such a profound topic.
We had a meaningful weekend, sharing our experiences and deepening our understanding. How wonderful it is to have these teachings in our country! May everyone have the opportunity to listen to and practice this precious Dharma!
