A beautiful design

There is a beautiful rhythm to each Festival week: first teachings then retreat. This design came from the kindness of Venerable Geshe-la as a method to guide us to a deeper experience of Dharma.

Retreat gives us time to reflect on the teachings we have received, to take them to heart and to experience their transformative power. In this way we have the mental space and time for genuine spiritual development. We taste the different Lamrim meditations, connecting to them in our own experience, savouring the feelings they bring to our own mind. In each session we develop and hold precious wisdom conclusions and determinations that stay with us during the day and hopefully for our whole life.

Day 5 ~ space for spiritual development

The Lamrim meditations guided by Kadam Morten are very spacious, with lots of time for contemplation. He helps us to still our mind, to disengage it from any busyness and to centre ourself in refuge at the beginning of each session. Then he skilfully guides us to find the various objects given in the Lamrim teachings.

During retreat you can really appreciate the deep importance of mental actions and how meditation is the actual method to take the teachings from an intellectual level to a deeper understanding, and eventually to the level of spontaneous realisations.

Festival has a different energy during the retreat time: calmer, quieter and pervaded by peace.
