THE STAGES OF CASTING A METAL STATUE
As the artists at Kadampa Art Studio begin to train in producing metal statues for Kadampa temples and meditation centres we share with you some of the skills they are learning.
1. A figure is first cast in wax
2. The wax figure is cut into pieces
3. Any holes are repaired
4. The pieces are dipped into liquid ceramics until it hardens
5. The wax is melted out
6. The metal is poured in
7. The ceramics are broken away to release the metal pieces
8. The pieces are welded together
9. The welding marks are chased out and buffed
