opening the door to modern buddhism in washington dc

This weekend was very special for the captial city, when Gen-la Kelsang Jampa, Deputy Spiritual Director of NKT-IKBU, blessed and formally opened the new building for KMC Washington DC.

Through the great kindness of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, the founder of the NKT-IKBU, teachings on modern Kadampa Buddhism first came to Washington DC in 1994.

Through Venerable Geshe-la's continued kindness and blessings a new Temple for Modern Buddhism has now arisen. With this beautiful new Temple, Buddha’s teachings will now be accessible to many more people in DC.

Auspicious
What an auspicious sight it was to see Gen-la Jampa and Gen Demo, the Resident Teacher, walking to the new center in the warm glow of the evening sun. And what a moment when Gen-la cut the ribbon and opened the doorway to Buddha's Pure Land, just a short distance form the Capitol!

In his opening talk Gen-la emphasised the importance of KMCDC and its power and ability to encourage and cultivate peaceful minds locally, nationally, and internationally.

Then, during the weekend course that followed, Gen-la gave incredible teachings on compassion and wisdom.

Thank you Venerable Geshe-la, thank you Gen-la Jampa, and thank you to everyone who has cherished this center over the last 25 years and created the causes for this precious temple in DC!
