Celebrating Turning the Wheel of Dharma Day and the Birthday of our Spiritual Guide
Jun 4, 2026
We had the great good fortune to welcome our Midwestern National Spiritual Director, Gen Kelsang Demo, for a special Friday evening class and Saturday workshop at KMC Arizona, US.
Both events were deeply profound and highly practical, offering clear guidance on how to integrate Dharma into daily life. Many people attended, and the collective sincerity and enthusiasm created a truly uplifting and meaningful atmosphere. Thank you to everyone who joined and helped make these events so special!
We deeply enjoyed receiving the blessing empowerment of Thousand-armed Avalokiteshvara granted by Gen Kelsang Leksang. This was the first time the empowerment has been granted at KMC Birmingham and many practitioners from all over the West Midlands joined together to receive it.
In the afternoon teaching, Gen Leksang shared teachings from Universal Compassion given by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. She explained how rather than allowing our suffering to bring us down and make us unhappy we can use it to develop and deepen our compassion. With this good heart we can improve our daily life and be able to free both ourselves and others from suffering permanently. We then engaged in the practice the Yoga of Thousand-armed Avalokiteshvara together.
Everyone enjoyed engaging in this special day and coming together and making meaningful connections with one another.
Some of our fortunate sangha from Atisha KMC, Darlington, had a deeply peaceful and enjoyable weekend retreat at Madhyamaka KMC. Our Resident Teacher Gen Chogma led us in meditations deeper and deeper into the clarity of our mind, along with sharing insights and excerpts from Venerable Geshela’s teachings on the meaning of clarity. It’s been so wonderful - even the sky has been clear.
A big thank you to our hard-working volunteers for organizing this event and to the community at Madhyamaka KMC for their fabulous hospitality. We’re already planning for next year!
On April 11, Bodhisattva Kadampa Buddhist Center hosted a course Karma: The Future is in Your Hands, taught by Resident Teacher Jorge Sánchez. Participants explored one of the most essential topics in Buddhism, learning what karma is, how it is created through actions of body, speech and mind, its effects on present and future lives, and how to purify negative karma through Dharma practice.
A key insight was understanding that every action plants a seed in our mental continuum, which will ripen when conditions come together. This encourages greater awareness and responsibility in daily life. During the break, participants enjoyed vegetarian burgers, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere that enriched the experience. The course offered a meaningful opportunity to share these teachings with more people and benefit the wider community.
June 4 is the Turning the Wheel of Dharma Day on which we celebrate Buddha’s first teaching in this world - the first Turning of the Wheel of Dharma. It is also the birthday of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, the Founder of NKT.
