Canadian National Festival and Public Talk
May 12, 2026
More than 100 participants from all over Germany gathered on Friday, November 28 – incidentally, World Compassion Day – at Kadampa Meditation Center Cologne. This special place was established in 2022 in one of Germany's largest cities and most densely populated regions as a center for pure Kadam Dharma – the first new Kadampa center to open in Germany for several years.
Gen Kelsang Ananda, the National Spiritual Director for Germany, conducted the traditional inauguration ceremony. The center was completely renovated for the opening, featuring a beautiful shrine with precious statues from the Kadampa Art Studio in England. Those present were deeply moved and inspired by the modern and inviting spaces, as well as the new meditation room.
The Dharma Celebration began with a public talk by Gen Kelsang Ananda on the topic Following the Path of Compassion. An attentive audience listened to his explanations of how compassion is cultivated by reducing our self-cherishing. This was followed on Saturday by a blessing empowerment of Arya Avalokiteshvara, with a subsequent commentary in which Gen Ananda shared profound instructions for practicing the Avalokiteshvara Sadhana.
Participants enjoyed their breaks in the cozy interior of the meditation center which fostered lively conversation, or in the nearby city center with its numerous Christmas markets, the famous cathedral, and the impressive River Rhine.
All of this came about through the kindness of Venerable Geshe-la and the long-standing dedication of many committed volunteers who helped make Geshe-la's vision of a center in Cologne a reality.
Kadampa practitioners gathered in Montreal for the Canadian National Festival 2026 with Gen-la Kelsang Khyenrab, following a well-attended public talk on inner peace. Participants received the blessing empowerment of Buddha Prajnaparamita and profound teachings on wisdom and compassion, enjoying a deeply inspiring and joyful reunion of the Canadian Sangha.
