For practitioners of modern Kadampa Buddhism, the month of January is a special time because it is the month in which we emphasise the practices of the enlightened Deities Heruka and Vajrayogini.

Because the people of this world have a special connection with Heruka and Vajrayogini, they are the principal Tantric Deities of modern Kadampa Buddhism, and the month of January is a special month in our calendar.

Today, the tenth day of the month, is Vajrayogini Day, on which we emphasise particularly the practice of Vajrayogini. In many Kadampa centers during the day there will be special group practices such as the self-generation practice of Quick Path to Great Bliss or the self-initiation practice of Feast of Great Bliss.

Then in the evening many centers will celebrate with the practice of Offering to the Spiritual Guide. This is a most important practice because it is through the Spiritual Guide that we meet the enlightened Deities Heruka and Vajrayogini and receive empowerments, transmissions and commentaries to these practices. Without the Spiritual Guide we would have no qualified Tantric practice.

SPECIAL CELEBRATION
This summer it will be ten years since Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche gave the empowerments, transmissions and commentaries of Heruka and Vajrayogini at Manjushri KMC in 2009. Today we celebrate Vajrayogini Day 2019 by recalling this auspicious event in pictures.
