The Modern Buddhism App is designed to introduce people to meditation and the teachings of the New Kadampa Tradition – International Kadampa Buddhist Union (NKT-IKBU) by providing:
We are committed to handling data transparently and in accordance with applicable privacy laws, including the UK GDPR, EU GDPR, and similar laws where applicable.
You do not need to create an account or sign in to use Modern Buddhism.
We collect only limited data that is necessary to provide app functionality or that you choose to allow.
If you choose to enable analytics, the app may collect and transmit limited usage and technical information to our analytics service provider, PostHog, such as:
Purpose: to understand app usage, improve content, fix issues, and improve app performance.
What we do not intentionally collect through analytics: your name, email address, or other direct identifiers.
When this happens: only if you opt in to analytics.
Some content interaction data may relate to meditation or wellbeing content. This data is used only for optional analytics, app improvement, diagnostics, and content performance measurement. It is not used for medical purposes, to identify a medical condition, to provide treatment advice, or for personalised advertising.
If you choose to enable location access, the app may access your device location to help show nearby Kadampa centres or events.
If you choose to sign up for a newsletter, you may be redirected to an external website operated by kadampa.org. Any personal data you provide there is handled by that website under its own privacy policy. The Modern Buddhism App does not collect or store that newsletter information within the app.
The Modern Buddhism App offers meditation and related spiritual content. Although some users may use the app as part of a personal wellbeing or mindfulness routine, the app is not a medical app.
The app does not request, access, collect, store, or share:
If you enable optional analytics, the app may collect limited usage data about app interactions, such as whether content was opened or played. Where such interactions involve meditation or wellbeing-related content, that information is used only for optional analytics, app improvement, diagnostics, and service operation. It is not used to infer medical status, provide healthcare services, or create health records or health profiles.
We do not sell or share health data for advertising or marketing purposes.
Where required, the app asks for your permission before accessing device features or optional data.
You can change your choices later using your device settings and, where available, in-app settings.
The app does not currently use the Android Advertising ID for advertising or cross-app tracking.
The app does not currently serve personalised ads and does not sell personal data.
If this changes in a future release, this privacy policy and the Google Play Data safety section will be updated before that functionality is enabled.
We do not sell or rent your personal data.
We may share limited data only with service providers that process data on our behalf for the purposes described in this policy, such as:
We do not share your data with third parties for their own advertising or marketing purposes.
We do not share any health record data or Health Connect data because the app does not access or collect such data.
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect data, including secure transmission over HTTPS where applicable.
We keep data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including app improvement, security, diagnostics, and legal compliance. Data handled by third-party providers may be retained according to their own retention practices and agreements with us.
We do not retain health record data or Health Connect data because the app does not access or collect such data.
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or restriction of personal data we hold about you, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
Because the app does not require an account and does not intentionally collect direct identifiers for normal app use, our ability to identify and act on a specific request may be limited unless you provide additional information.
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app, legal requirements, or Google Play requirements. Updated versions will be posted on the relevant website and/or made available through the app or store listing.
