CELEBRATING THE VENERABLE DAKINI
VAJRAYOGINI DAY 2024
The month of January is a special month in the Kadampa calendar during which we emphasize the practices of Heruka and Vajrayogini, the principal Highest Yoga Tantra Deities of modern Kadampa Buddhism. These sublime practices were given to us by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche and were his heart practices. Through his kindness we have the opportunity to attain the supreme happiness of enlightenment through following the practices of Vajrayogini.
Today, the tenth day of the month, is Vajrayogini Day. Kadampa Centers worldwide will be making offerings and engaging in prayers to Vajrayogini.
Vajrayogini is a female enlightened Deity of Highest Yoga Tantra who is the manifestation of the wisdom of all Buddhas. Her function is to guide all living beings to the Pure Land of Keajra, or Pure Dakini Land.
In Prayer to Behold the Beautiful Face of Vajrayogini it says:
Bliss and emptiness of infinite Conquerors who, as if in a drama,
Appear as so many different visions in samsara and nirvana;
From among these you are now the beautiful, powerful Lady of Dakini Land,
I remember you from my heart, please care for me with your playful embrace.
