Families celebrate kindness in the mountains
A joyful celebration of NKT Day
With the recent celebrations of NKT Day we are reminded that the full title of the organisation is New Kadampa Tradition-International Kadampa Buddhist Union. The term 'union' has many levels of meaning, one of which is an international community of people of all nationalities genders and ages united by a common purpose to bring outer peace to the world by creating inner peace in their hearts through the practices of Kadam Dharma. Quite literally, everyone is welcome.
Joyful celebration
On NKT Day the community at KMC Madrid La Sierra chose to illustrate this by welcoming everyone, including families and children, to their newly acquired center surrounded by the stunning Sierra de Guadarrama.
Children were invited to join many games and activities including a theater performance of The Story of Aṅgulimāla. There were also workshops on malas and ecological soap, and teenagers and adults could enjoy walks in the mountains.
The families came together to enjoy a delicious vegetarian lunch. And as they hung messages of love and hope on the trees nearby, their kindness rippled across the mountains.
In many ways this joyful celebration of NKT Day displayed in a practical way the core values of NKT - kindness, compassion and inclusivity.
