Once again the US Northwest Dharma Celebration offered an incredible opportunity for the Northwest Centers and Kadampas around the world to come together as a spiritual family at KMC Washington. It was a wonderful way to spend the Labor Day weekend and experience the Blessing Empowerment of Buddha Manjushri as well as the profound teachings from Shantideva’s Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life with Gen-la Dekyong.
The Seattle Sangha worked hard to prepare the center, including moving the large Buddhas to the other side of the meditation room to make room for a larger than usual event. Mahasiddha Buddhist Center ran Tushita Café in the courtyard offering pastries, lunch and, of course, the famous Seattle espresso drinks. Dharmakirti Buddhist Center from Bellingham, Washington managed the bookshop for the weekend and Olympia Mahayana Buddhist Center arranged the beautiful offerings and programs in the meditation room. There were also students from Alaska and Montana who said it was a great weekend to connect with the broader Northwest community. Many people stayed on site at KMC Washington enjoying our expanded guest services with new bunkbeds.
After Prayers for World Peace on Sunday with Gen-la Dekyong, the Youth Program presented their first video play entitled, “Chandragomin’s Refuge.” It was a real delight and told the powerful story of sincere reliance upon Buddha Tara.
We are all looking forward to seeing everyone again next year.
