UK Southern Dharma Celebration 2008 ~ Review

As spring arrived in London, we were granted the most wonderful opportunity to rejuvenate our practice at the Southern Dharma Celebration with Gen-la Khyenrab, held in Conway Hall from the 7th to the 9th of March.

It is fitting that a blusterous wind blew throughout the festival as we received the empowerment and blessings of Arya White Tara, the embodiment of the purified wind element of all the Buddhas.

In his inspiring commentary, Gen-la Khyenrab explained that if we sincerely rely upon White Tara, we will acquire a long life, good merit and, most importantly, wisdom. And with these conditions, we will be able to achieve all our spiritual goals in this life. Gen Chönden reinforced the teachings by leading rich and profound meditations.

In the first and final sessions, Gen-la Khyenrab also gave an invaluable commentary to the ‘Prayer of the Stages of the Path’, deepening our understanding of these precious words which many of us recite every day.

Along the way, Gen-la kindly inspired us with many incisive observations. He gave powerful advice regarding the importance of maintaining our vows and commitments. And he encouraged us to dedicate ourselves to our spiritual goals, saying that “we must sweep aside all distractions, thinking ‘this may be the only opportunity we have.’”

May everyone find the opportunity to attend meaningful events such as the Southern Dharma Celebration.
