The first annual California Dharma Celebration was held at the Radisson Hotel Westside in Los Angeles from Dec 28, 2007 through Jan 1, 2008.
To receive these teachings, Kadampa practitioners traveled from California, Washington, Oregon, Montana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Arizona, New Mexico, Georgia and even as far away as Mexico, England and Australia. Some even brought their surfboards!
Gen-la Dekyong began the event with a Public Talk, The Secret of Happiness, followed by the blessing empowerment of Buddha Tara, and two days of Teachings on Compassion and Wisdom based on Advice from Atisha’s Heart. Gen Dao led the meditations and ushered in the New Year at midnight with Prayers for World Peace.
Hosted by Kadampa Meditation Center California (formerly known as Khandakapala Buddhist Center in Los Angeles), the Celelebration was set up and run by the joyous effort and teamwork of all the NKT Centers in California. Enjoy the photos of the transformation of the hotel, Kadampas working in the beautiful Meditation Room, Marketplace and Tharpa Shop and Registration.
After a blissful New Year’s Eve event, The New Year’s Day talk by Gen-la Dekyong on Celebrating Wisdom & Compassion in our Lives and our World completed 5 days of a very blessed spiritual holiday and left everyone inspired to begin 2008 with minds filled with peace and hope.
